Summary:

Mr. Perez is a former of Counsel with Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal LLP and has over ten years of experience practicing intellectual property law.  Mr. Perez offers clients expertise in all areas of intellectual property law with emphasis on patent prosecution and client counseling on patent-related issues.  Mr. Perez has represented both patent owners and alleged infringers in litigation.  He has provided non-infringement and/or invalidity opinions, and has prepared and prosecuted patents in the electrical arts.  Mr. Perez’ areas of expertise include telecommunications (including Voice-over-IP telephony), wireless voice and data communications, computer network technology, computer programming, interactive television, semiconductors, medical instrumentation, and laser technology.  Mr. Perez has also successfully represented two immigrants seeking asylum in the United States pro bono in the Immigration Court in Chicago and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Prior to attending law school at Chicago-Kent College of Law, Mr. Perez was an engineer with Abbot Laboratories for over seven years.  While at Abbott Laboratories, Mr. Perez designed and developed embedded software systems in diagnostic medical equipment.  Mr. Perez also worked as a hardware engineer at Honeywell’s Commercial Division developing hardware for fire and security systems and building automation systems.
