Mariana brings eight years of multi-national legal experience to The Eclipse Group, including U.S. and foreign patent, trademark, copyright and trade dress counseling (protection and procurement). Mariana's practice focuses on the preparation and prosecution of foreign and domestic trademark and copyright applications and assisting with the preparation of foreign and domestic design patent applications.
Mariana began her legal practice in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She has extensive experience in trademark, trade dress, copyright and patent enforcement; in particular, investigating infringement claims and product clearance, assisting with the preparation of non-infringement and invalidity opinions, and trademark enforcement.
Her main focus is on assisting and counseling clients, whether individuals or corporations, interested in expanding their businesses to the Latin American market. Due to her focus on international intellectual property (law), Mariana has comprehensive knowledge of the Patent Cooperation Treaty, the Madrid Protocol and the patent, trademark and copyright laws of many foreign jurisdictions. She is in continuous communication with the firm’s network of foreign associates in Europe, Asia, North America, and South America with regard to the prosecution and maintenance of national and regional stage patent and trademark filings.
Mariana is a member of numerous national and international legal organizations, including the International Law Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, for which she serves on the Executive Committee, and following her 2009 appointment as Secretary, has been recently re-elected Secretary for the 2010/2011 terms. She is a member of the Italian American Lawyers Association, International Trademark Association, and International Bar Association. Mariana has also served as a volunteer practice judge at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, Pepperdine University Annual National Entertainment Law Moot Court Competition, and Inter-American Human Rights Moot Court Competition. She is fluent in Spanish and English, proficient in Italian and has basic German writing skills.
Prior to joining The Eclipse Group, Mariana practiced law as an independent practitioner in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She received her J.D. with honors, with an emphasis on international corporate law, from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
