Brian works primarily in the areas of patent preparation, patent prosecution, and intellectual property litigation. Brian has worked with various software, electrical, and mechanical technologies including: telecommunications; vehicle systems; database and Internet applications; audio devices; and hydraulics and control systems.

Brian earned his J.D. from the Chicago-Kent College of Law with a certificate in intellectual property law.  While in law school, Brian completed an internship at Orbitz Worldwide where he directly assisted counsel in the preparation of computer-implemented patent applications.  Additionally, Brian studied comparative intellectual property law in Munich, Germany in a program sponsored by the Santa Clara School of Law, the University of Munich, and the Max Planck Institute.

 

Brian also worked in the Chicago-Kent Intellectual Property Clinic with local attorneys to provide pro bono IP services to educational institutions.  While working in the IP clinic, Brian authored patent applications and assisted in the preparation of patentability and freedom to operate opinions.  He served as the Executive Articles editor for the Chicago-Kent Journal of Intellectual Property and as the executive managing editor at the Chicago-Kent Center for Access to Justice and Technology.  While working for the CAJT, Brian assisted in the development of web-based legal resources for self-represented litigants.

 

Brian received CALI awards in many classes including Trademarks and Unfair Competition.  For his achievements in his trademark law class, Brian won the Dolores K. Hanna Prize for 2008.

 

Brian has a B.S. in computer science from the Georgia Institute of Technology, with a specialization in databases and software development.  After graduating from Georgia Tech, Brian worked as a software engineer for Prometheus Systems Consulting, a software development company, where he managed numerous software development projects, programming database-driven and customized business applications and web-technologies.
